About the board
The Department of Jobs, Skills, Industry and Regions is seeking expressions of interest (EOI) from suitably qualified and interested individuals to join a pool of potential candidates for consideration for appointment to one of Victorian Creative Industries boards as vacancies arise.
The portfolio of State-owned Creative Industries agencies overseen by Creative Victoria within the Department of Jobs, Skills, Industry and Regions play a leading role in Victoria's creative industries and cultural life. They perform a range of important functions from giving Victorians access to diverse arts and cultural experiences and the management of the state's iconic cultural institutions, to supporting the development and growth of the creative industries sector. The Minister for Creative Industries also appoints some members to several non-governmental entities in the creative industries sector.
Spanning visual art, design, screen culture, performing arts, music, museums and literature, the agencies are custodians of Victoria's cultural collections, places of learning and research, and are amongst the state's most popular and beloved tourism attractions, engaging with millions of Victorians and visitors each year.
The agencies also support the Victorian Government's creative industries strategy, Creative State 2025(and any successor strategy) which aims to grow jobs and skills and maintain Victoria's reputation as a global cultural destination and bold creative leader. The strategy's vision is a state where creative people, ideas and enterprises thrive, and where everyone has equitable access to and benefits from a rich creative culture.
The EOI invites suitably qualified individuals to express their interest in potentially joining one of Victoria's creative industries boards. Applicants who submit their interest will be included in a talent pool for consideration for any potential vacancies that may arise on boards through to 2027. When a vacancy occurs on a board, applications will be assessed against skills, experience and diversity requirements of the entity. Applicants will be contacted directly if identified as a potential candidate suitable for a board role.
About the role
Creative Industries boards generally consist of a chairperson, sometimes a deputy chairperson, and between 5 to 10 members appointed by the Minister for Creative Industries or in some cases by the Governor in Council following the approval of Cabinet.
Boards generally meet between 6 to 8 times per year with additional meetings for board committees. Boards oversee the management of the public entity in line with its function and purpose. A description of each creative industries agency is included in the Position Description.
Members of the board contribute to the effective functioning and decision making of the board to ensure it can fulfill its statutory functions in a manner that is compliant with its overall governance framework. In carrying out their role, members are expected to conduct themselves in a manner consistent with the public sector values of responsiveness, integrity, impartiality, accountability, respect, leadership and human rights as set out by section 7 of the Public Administration Act 2004 (the Act)and consistent with the duties of directors as set out under section 79 of the Act.
Appointments are made in accordance with the Victorian Government's Appointment and Remuneration Guidelines.
