About the board

The Minister for Equality is seeking expressions of interest from passionate LGBTIQA+ individuals to join the:

  • LGBTIQA+ Taskforce
  • LGBTIQA+ Health and Wellbeing Working Group
  • LGBTIQA+ Justice Working Group

These groups are key parts of Victoria's LGBTIQA+ governance structure and help drive the implementation of Victoria's 10-year strategy: Pride in our future 2022–32.

The Taskforce and its working groups are a vital way for government to connect directly with LGBTIQA+ communities.

Members provide trusted advice, share lived experiences, and provide insights that inform government policies, programs, and services.

By sharing your expertise and your connection to community, you can help shape a more inclusive and equitable future for all LGBTIQA+ Victorians.

Boards meet quarterly and include community members, a Ministerial co-chair, and a community co-chair.

  • The Justice Working Group advises on justice and community safety issues and systems, law reform, youth justice, corrections and emergency management.

  • The Health and Wellbeing Working Group advises on issues including ageing, alcohol and drugs, health services, mental health, public health and health promotion.

About the role

Appointments are for a three-year term. Beginning in January 2026 through to December 2028.

Members are remunerated for their participation in line with Appointment and Remuneration Guidelines 2024.

You will attend four meetings a year – 12 meetings in total.

You’ll be expected to review materials ahead of meetings and contribute thoughtfully to discussions and advice.

You’ll be expected to adhere to the Victorian Public Sector Commission’s Code of Conduct for Directors of Victorian Public Entities (March 2024)

Your role will be to provide sound, independent advice based on your lived experience, expertise, and knowledge.

Members are appointed as individuals — not to represent any particular organisation or group.

Community co-chairs will lead discussions in a way that is inclusive, respectful, and focused on achieving meaningful outcomes.

They will work closely with the Ministerial co-chairs and secretariat support between meetings.

Who we're looking for

We strongly encourage LGBTIQA+ people from all backgrounds and experiences to apply — whether your experience comes through community involvement, advocacy, leadership, professional expertise, or lived experience.

Appointments will reflect the rich diversity of LGBTIQA+ communities, and we are particularly keen to hear from:

  • People whose lived experiences span multiple forms of marginalisation.
  • Intersex people
  • First Nations peoples
  • People from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds
  • People with disability
  • People from rural and regional settings
  • LGBTIQA+ people 65 years and older
  • LGBTIQA+ people 25 years and under

You do not need a formal title to apply — what matters most is your connection to community and your passion for making change.

We are looking for members who have:

  • Lived experience and understanding of the issues facing LGBTIQA+ people, including the ways that different identities and backgrounds intersect.
  • Strategic thinking skills to offer thoughtful, forward-looking advice.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to provide constructive, independent advice.
  • Willingness to engage with government in ways that promote positive change.
  • Experience working collaboratively in groups, committees, or similar settings

If applying for a Working Group, you will also bring experience in one of the following:

  • Health and Wellbeing Working Group: Health research, health service provision, advocacy, community support or peer work in LGBTIQA+ health and wellbeing.

  • Justice Working Group: Work in legal services, law reform, equality advocacy, or community legal support relating to LGBTIQA+ justice issues.

Applications from young people passionate about the opportunity who have some, but not all, of the above are encouraged to apply.

We will provide adjustments to the recruitment process upon request.
