About the board
The Victorian Legal Services Board and Commissioner (VLSB+C) is the independent regulator of the legal profession in Victoria. We license lawyers and oversee service standards and conduct. This includes handling complaints about lawyers, investigating poor conduct and overseeing management of trust accounts. We are also the stewards of the Public Purpose and Fidelity Funds and administer these to support legal regulation and access to justice in Victoria.
The Regulatory Approach Statement provides a clear statement of how the organisation seeks to perform its role as regulators of the legal profession in Victoria.
About the role
The Position
As a member of the Board, you will have the opportunity to help shape the direction, performance, and culture of the VLSB through oversight of strategy development and execution, and of the Board CEO.
The Board has seven members - a chairperson, three members of the legal profession, and three members who are not lawyers. This Board position will be one non-lawyer member with experience in financial or prudential management
The Board meetings are typically 2 to 3 hours long. A commitment of approximately 10 meetings a year is required (6x Board and 4x committee meetings) plus other ad-hoc meetings, strategy sessions, induction and training.
Board appointments are for a term of up to 4 years and can be renewed. The role attracts fixed remuneration.
Who we're looking for
We seek an applicant with institutional funds management experience, strong ESG knowledge, commercial acumen, governance insight, and relevant finance or business qualifications.
Self-awareness, respect for others, listening skills and intellectual capacity is required, along with a balanced and independent mind.
Demonstration of the highest standards of ethics and professional and personal integrity, with both strategic ability and an attention to detail.

Previous board or governance experience is preferred.
