The Veterinary Practitioners Registration Board of Victoria (the Veterinary Board) is a statutory body created through the passing of the Veterinary Practice Act 1997 (the Act).
The Veterinary Board protects the public and the health and welfare of animals by regulating veterinary practitioners through the effective administration of the Act.
The nine members of the Veterinary Board meet every month to oversee the operations, consider complaints against registered veterinary practitioners, and consider applications for registration in Victoria.
The Board consists of the following categories:
Two non-veterinarians (community members) with appropriate experience.
A suitably qualified registered veterinarian is sought for appointment as Member and President/Chairperson of the Veterinary Board from June 2026.
This leadership role requires a confident and experienced veterinary practitioner who is able to guide the Veterinary Board’s deliberations, foster a collaborative culture and ensure that decisions are grounded in fairness, integrity and sound governance practice.
The Veterinary Board protects animal welfare and public trust in veterinary practice across Victoria. We are seeking a veterinary practitioner who can step into that leadership - someone with vision, integrity and the capacity to guide the Board’s work into the next chapter.
The successful applicant will bring clinical credibility, mature judgement, and the ability to work constructively with veterinarians, legal experts, community members and government.
The President of the Board must be an experienced registered veterinary practitioner and have significant previous experience as Chair of a Board or Committee. Qualifications such as Australian Institute of Company Directors or the Corporate Governance Institute would be advantageous.
If you understand veterinary standards, can work through complex complaint matters and want to shape the profession at a system level - we’d like to hear from you.
Full role expectations and capability requirements are available in the Candidate Success Profile.
Applicants are required to register an account on the Join a Public Board website (www.boards.vic.gov.au) prior to applying online. Additional information on how to apply can be found via this link: https://www.boards.vic.gov.au/how-to-apply
