Purpose
The Victoria Local Government Grants Commission is a statutory authority whose primary function is to make recommendations for the Financial Assistance Grant provided by the Commonwealth Government to councils in Victoria in accordance with the Local Government (Financial Assistance) Act 1995 (Cth) and a set of national distribution principles. All funds provided by the Commonwealth are distributed to councils. The Commission is established through State legislation (Victorian Local Government Grants Commission Act 1976). The Commission is comprised of a Chair and two members appointed by the Governor in Council, and all of the Commission's costs are met by the Victorian Government.
