Purpose
The Victorian Government Solicitor's Office (VGSO) provides legal advice exclusively for the Victorian Government and its statutory authorities. The VGSO is an Administrative Office established by the Premier under the Public Administration Act 2004 (the Act), and the Victorian Government Solicitor is responsible to the Secretary of the Department of Justice and Community Safety under the Act.
The VGSO is able to accept service on behalf of the State, and briefs the Attorney-General directly on certain matters including constitutional interventions and notices issued under the Charter of Human Rights and Responsibilities Act 2006.
