In line with the Disability Discrimination Act 1992 and the Disability Standards for Accessible Public Transport 2002, the Victorian Government is committed to building an inclusive community where everyone can reach their full potential. We want to ensure that people with disability can fully and easily access all modes of transport, including public transport, and easily navigate their environment and connect with life.
The Hon. Gabrielle Williams MP, Minister for Transport Infrastructure and Minister for Public and Active Transport, is seeking applications for three members to the Transport and Planning Accessibility Advisory Committee (TPAAC).
The Committee is currently operating under the name Accessible Transport Advisory Committee (ATAC). The name of the Committee is changing to acknowledge the fact that its scope has recently been broadened to include planning in addition to transport.
To reflect this recent development, candidates who can demonstrate knowledge of and/or experience in contributing to the development of inclusive communities will be prioritised. Understanding of how accessibility issues interact with Victoria's planning and building systems and the challenges and opportunities in this area is particularly desirable.
TPAAC's aim is to be a leading source of advice to the Minister and the Department of Transport and Planning on improving the accessibility of Victoria's transport and planning systems. It also seeks to ensure whole‑of‑journey accessibility for people of all abilities, attributes and backgrounds across all regions of Victoria.
This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the work of TPAAC and to help improve the accessibility and inclusiveness of Victorian communities.
TPAAC's functions include:
Key responsibilities for TPAAC members include:
The full set of member responsibilities can be found in the position description.
Capacity to engage with stakeholders to analyse issues, balance competing interests and advise with evidence is highly regarded. Working knowledge of the regulatory framework around disability rights and disability access standards is desirable.
Successful candidates will be appointed for a period of up to 36 months (three- years) by the Minister.
Applications are sought from Victorian residents who:
In this specific round of recruitment, a proven ability to provide strategic advice to key decision makers to achieve accessible outcomes through planning and building systems, especially in precinct delivery, is particularly desirable.
Appointments to Victorian government entities reflect, as far as practicable, the diversity of the Victorian community and draw interest from a range of community members and geographic areas.
It is Government policy that no less than 50 percent of all appointments to paid Victorian Government boards and Victorian courts identify as women. With the current composition of the Committee and three positions available, at least one of the appointees will be someone who identifies as a woman.
We encourage applications from people of all ages, First Peoples, people with disability, people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds and people who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, gender diverse, intersex and queer.
Please let us know if you need any adjustments to the recruitment process.
Applicants should review the information pack and position description documents available to download on the right of this webpage before completing their application.
