About the board

The Victorian Institute of Teaching (the VIT) is pleased to invite applications for a sessional position of Independent member and Chair on the Audit Risk Management Finance Committee (the ARMFC).
The primary responsibilities of the ARMFC include:

  • To review and endorse the annual financial statements, including reports and recommendations from the external auditor.
  • To review and recommend to Council the VIT's annual budget and monitor short term and long-term financial performance.
  • To review reports and findings from internal audit and monitor follow up actions and their impacts on residual risk exposure.
  • To provide an objective view to the Council on the effectiveness of the risk management framework.
  • To review and monitor regulatory and legislative compliance as well as compliance with internal policies and instances of non-compliance.
  • To review the adequacy and effectiveness of key policies, systems and controls for providing a sound internal control environment.

About the role

The ARMF Committee is comprised of an Independent Chairperson, an additional independent committee member, and of at least three Council members. Along with the Committee members a number of VIT executive attend the meeting, along with the VIT’s internal auditors.
In addition to the Chair’s responsibilities and accountabilities as an independent member of the Committee, the Chair provides leadership to ensure the committee’s effective functioning and that the committee fulfils its responsibilities in accordance with its charter and applicable regulations.

The ARMF Committee is scheduled to meet at least six times per calendar year with meetings usually 2 hours duration. Papers are provided to the Committee members one week prior to scheduled meetings.
The Committee may also meet out of session to discuss specific matters or meet with specific stakeholders as required.

Who we're looking for

The successful applicant will ideally have experience in audit and risk committees and knowledge and skills in the following areas:
• Accounting or related financial management experience and/or qualifications, and a comprehensive understanding of accounting and auditing standards and financial statements
• Knowledge of Standing Directions 2018 under the Financial Management Act 1994 requirements
• Knowledge of the risks and controls relating to an independent statutory authority
• Understanding of the role of compliance in a State Government context
• Relevant experience as chair of an Audit and Risk Committee

Applications close at midnight Wednesday 10 April, with the appointment to commence from 1st July 2024. The following Committee meeting scheduled is on 9th August 2024.
After the closing date, applications will be reviewed and assessed against the requirements of the position. The selection panel will recommend applicants to be shortlisted for interview.
