About the board

The Department of Jobs, Skills, Industry and Regions (DJSIR) is seeking expressions of interest (EOI) from suitably qualified and interested individuals to be considered for appointment to Victorian sport, tourism and events entity boards.

Entities within the Sport and Experience Economy Group of DJSIR perform a range of important functions, from the managementand regulation of Melbourne's key sports, entertainment, conference and exhibition facilities to the development of Victoria's elite athletes, delivery of major events, and the attraction of visitors and events to Victoria.

The Victorian Government invests in major sport, conference, tourism and events facilities and entities to:

  • position Victoria as a world-leading tourism destination;
  • drive the Victorian visitor economy through the attraction of visitors and events;
  • build and maintain Victoria's capacity to stage significant business, sporting and major events and exhibitions;
  • support state level and professional sporting teams competing in national and international competitions;
  • support high performance athlete development through the provision of quality high performance coaching, training, sports science and recovery facilities;
  • provide welcoming, safe and inclusive facilities that support general participation in sport and recreation; and

regulate professional boxing and combat sports to promote safety, reduce the risk of malpractice and uphold industry integrity.

About the role

Boards comprise of a Chairperson, sometimes a Deputy Chairperson, and between 5 and 11 other members, representing a broad range of industry and community stakeholders. Boards meet 6 to 10 times per year. Some boards require board members to have specific skills and experience.

Members are appointed by the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Major Events and in some instances, by Cabinet and the Governor in Council. Appointments are made in accordance with the Victorian Government's Appointment and Remuneration Guidelines

Who we're looking for

Expressions of interest are sought from suitably qualified individuals with skills and experience in the areas listed in the position description. Please note that some boards require members to have mandatory knowledge and/or experience.

The EOI Process

When a vacancy arises on a board, applications will be considered and shortlisted against the entity’s current requirements and any skills and diversity gaps the board may have.

Shortlisted candidates may be interviewed, and referee checks conducted, and recommendations for appointments will be made to the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Major Events.

Please note that you will only be contacted if a vacant role arises, and your application has been shortlisted for that role.

Your application will be kept on file until for at least 12 months.

  • An Expression of Interest letter – included in the letter can be a statement addressing some of the selection criteria and specialist expertise, or detailing the relevant experience, skills, and attributes that you would bring to the role. You are not required to address all the selection criteria. The letter should be addressed to: To Whom It May Concern”;
  • Current Curriculum Vitae.

Applications are to be submitted via Join a Public Board (www.boards.vic.gov.au). All documents are to be attached as Microsoft Office Word files. DJSIR will not accept an application if it is not submitted through the Join a Public Board process.

Please note that applications made during the EOI advertised in 2022 have now lapsed. Former applicants who remain interested in future board member roles will need to make a new application through this current EOI process.

Applications made through the EOI advertised in 2023 remain on file and there is no need to reapply unless you wish to update your knowledge, skills, or relevant experience. If you choose to reapply, your old application will be replaced by the new version.
