About us
The Estate Agents Council (EAC) is a statutory body established under section 6 of the Estate Agents Act 1980 (the Act).
Its objectives, role and functions are set out in sections 6A and 6B of the Act and include to advise the Minister on current and emerging issues and, among other matters, to:
- monitor developments in the real estate industry generally
- respond to issues referred to it by the Minister
- protect the interests of persons using real estate services
- promote appropriate standards of conduct and competency for persons in the real estate industry, and
- make recommendations to the Minister on applications for grants from the Victorian Property Fund.

About the role
The Estate Agents Council is comprised of 8 members appointed by the Governor in Council. This role is one of three member positions appointed from the real estate industry.
EAC members are appointed for terms of up to three years. EAC members are required to attend monthly meetings, which are currently held virtually. The meetings are approximately two hours in duration. EAC members are expected to work approximately two hours each month outside of the meetings.
This is an opportunity to contribute your industry knowledge and expertise in advising the Minister on real estate issues affecting the Victorian community. In this role you will be responsible for;
- Work collaboratively with the Estate Agents Council to support and advise on priority industry initiatives set by the Minister for Consumer Affairs
- Provide expert advice to the Minister to support the operation of this Estate Agents Act 1980 and its regulations, making recommendations on policies relating to the real estate industry, and relating to the application of grants administered by Consumer Affairs Victoria
- Critically assess the efficiency and effectiveness of regulation of the real estate industry under the Act and the need for further regulation or alternatives to regulation such as de-regulation or co-regulation
- Monitor the provision of services by estate agents and developments in the real estate industry generally
- Establish and maintain cooperative relationships with assessment entities
- Assess applications and recommend whether to approve relevant applications for grants from the Victorian Property Fund
Who we're looking for
About you
Suitable candidates are required to contribute effectively to the Estate Agents Council and demonstrate:
- An understanding of the responsibilities and obligations of a statutory office holder
- Demonstrated leadership and interpersonal skills
- Demonstrated communication skills
- An ability to work under pressure and prioritise workloads
- An understanding of the responsibilities and obligations of a stator office holder
- Understanding of the operations of Government administration and an interest and experience in policy development, legislative process and regulation
Mandatory requirements:
- Currently working as an estate agent or within the estate agent industry

A Selection Panel will assess all applications and shortlist candidates for an interview.
The Selection Panel shall provide advice on candidates to the Minister for Consumer Affairs. The Minister may submit a recommendation to the Governor in Council, who makes appointments to the EAC pursuant to the Act.
