About the board

The Hon. Mary-Anne Thomas MP, Minister for Health, Health Infrastructure and Medical Research is pleased to invite applications for appointments to the following three (3) positions on the Victorian Pharmacy Authority (Authority):

  • Chairperson (for a registered pharmacist only)
  • Pharmacist member (for a registered pharmacist only)
  • Community member (for a non-pharmacist only)

The Victorian Pharmacy Authority (the Authority) is an independent statutory body established under the Pharmacy Regulation Act 2010 (the Act) as the successor to the Pharmacy Board of Victoria. The Authority reports to the Minister for Health. The Authority is responsible for the administration of the Act which provides for the regulation of pharmacy businesses, pharmacy departments and pharmacy depots.

Pursuant to section 87 of the Act, the Authority consists of members appointed by the Governor in Council on the recommendation of the Minister. Three must be registered pharmacists, one must be an Australian lawyer and one must be a person who is not a registered pharmacist. Members of the Authority are appointed for a period, not exceeding three years, but are eligible for reappointment upon the expiry of their term of office.

The Authority is supported by a Registrar (Chief Executive Officer), Chief Financial Officer, Senior Pharmacist and other staff.

About the role

These positions provide an exciting opportunity for suitably qualified and experienced individuals to contribute to the governance of the Authority and protection of the Victorian public.

These are paid, part-time Victorian Governor-in-Council appointments. The term of these appointments is up to three years from 1 July 2024.

Who we're looking for

The Victorian Pharmacy Authority requires members with a range of skills and expertise in areas including corporate governance, strategic planning and thinking, financial management and analysis, community engagement, stakeholder management, communication and risk management.

Please note that both the Chairperson and Registered Pharmacist members must be registered pharmacists under the Health Practitioner Regulation National Law Act 2009.
