Energy Safe Victoria

Energy Safe Victoria (ESV) is the independent Statutory Authority responsible for electricity, gas and pipeline safety in Victoria. ESV's purpose is to keep Victorian's energy safe and ensure the community is confident in its supply. It achieves this through the management of the industry's safety cases and safety management schemes for the design, construction and maintenance of electricity, gas and pipeline infrastructure across the state. Additionally, it administers regulations covering gas and electrical appliances, installations and energy efficiency. As the Energy Regulator, it also licenses Electricians, manages the Certificate of Electrical Safety Program, educates the community through public awareness safety campaigns and investigates gas and electrical incidents.

Commissioner and Chairperson

The Victorian Energy Safety Commission known as ‘Energy Safe Victoria’ comprises the Commissioner and Chairperson, and two additional Commissioners. The Commissioner and Chairperson leads the Commission in setting the strategic direction for regulation for energy safety in Victoria, provides strong governance in the implementation of ESV’s strategy and corporate plan, delivers on the Ministerial Statement of Expectations, and ensures best practice regulation and the highest energy safety outcomes for Victorians.

Who we're looking for

Credentials

To be considered for the position of Commissioner and Chairperson you will have extensive experience in an executive leadership position in a regulator, or significant experience presiding over inquiries of a regulatory nature. You will be able to demonstrate an in-depth understanding of regulatory, community safety, economic, legislative and/or relevant legal frameworks, strong governance, a commercial aptitude, and you will be particularly effective in stakeholder engagement across the public and commercial sectors, industry and the community. Tertiary qualifications in law, safety, public policy, regulatory practice, economics or a related field will be an advantage. This position is two days per week and will be remunerated accordingly
