The Victorian Registration and Qualifications Authority (VRQA) Board oversees the regulation of education and training in Victoria to ensure quality learning outcomes and the safety of students, apprentices and trainees. Established under the Education and Training Reform Act 2006, the Board guides the VRQA's work including registering and regulating schools, vocational education and training providers, home schooling, apprenticeships and traineeships and course accreditation. Through its governance and strategic direction, the Board supports the Victorian Government's vision for an education system where every student has the opportunity to thrive and reach their full potential.
The Board, led by the Board Chair, govern the organisation and including setting the strategic direction and driving financial sustainability and best practice. Board Members must demonstrate a commitment to integrity, professionalism, and practice to support continuous improvement.
Working in close consultation with the CEO, Board responsibilities under the stewardship of the Chair include shaping regulatory priorities, duty holder and stakeholder engagement, governance and risk oversight, strategic decisions, assessing the performance of the organisation, and providing expert insight and advice through Board deliberations.
The Board meets 6 times a year on a pre-set schedule of Board and subcommittee meetings and Board members are expected to undertake significant preparation.
You are an experienced and respected leader in education or related areas in Victoria, with demonstrable knowledge of public sector governance and a passion for shaping the future of education and training. You may have experience across school education; vocational education and training; adult, community and further education, or similar, and ideally have been part of a Board or a similar body, or held a comparable governance or a decision-making group leadership role.
You may have skills and experience in quality assurance, business management, institutional governance, law, finance or industry. You have experience understanding complex operating environments, interrogating and analysing complex reporting across diverse matters, and providing strategic advice that balances organisational, government and stakeholder interests. Above all, you contribute to Board considerations with authenticity and integrity, welcome innovation, and aspire to be part of achieving quality learning outcomes that impact children and young people and the Victorian community.
