Public health services deliver a range of health, mental health, community health and aged care services. Public health services are entities operating under the Health Services Act (Vic) 1988 and are integral to the Victorian health system. The board, the chair and individual directors of a public health service have formal duties and responsibilities to the Minister for Health, the Secretary of the Department of Health (the department) and Victorian communities. The board is accountable to the Minister for Health for the delivery of health care to a high quality, safe and in a cost-effective and sustainable way.
Albury Wodonga Health is a cross-border service administered by the Victorian Department of Health under an inter-governmental agreement with the New South Wales Ministry of Health. Albury Wodonga Health spans 21 clinical locations, including two hospital campuses, primary and community care clinics, mental health and alcohol and other drug services, rehabilitation centres, and specialist care hubs. It provides health services to communities across north-east Victoria and southern New South Wales. Further information about the health service is available at www.awh.org.au.
It is also a member of the Hume Local Health Service Network. By working together across the network, health services will be able to better coordinate care, including escalating care from smaller services to a larger or specialist hospital and bringing care closer to home to assist ongoing care and recovery. As chair you will be doing more than just contributing your time or knowledge. Being appointed to a hospital board places you in a position of trust. You will play an important role in providing leadership, accountability and integrity in the delivery of healthcare across the system.
Chairs are required to attend and lead a monthly board meeting, participate in board subcommittees and be available for other events requiring board representation.
