Purpose
The responsibilities of the board include oversight of the Public Tranport Ombudsman scheme, maintenance of the Ombudsman's independence and providing advice to the Ombudsman on policy and procedural matters.
Persuant to clause 14.1 of the consititution of the PTO the board consists of up to 11 members, the Chairperson, three Consumer directors and up to seven Industry Directors.
Clause 14.5 of the consititution provides that the Minsiter appoints the Chairperson and three Consumer directors to the board to represent the interests of users of public transport services. The Industry directors are appointed by the board.
The Public Transport Ombudsman does not undertake a public function on behalf of the state. As such, Public Transport Ombudsman does not meed the definition of a 'public entity' under the PAA.
