Purpose
The Public Interest Monitor (PIM) tests the content and sufficiency of the information relied on by law enforcement agencies when applying to issuing authorities for warrants or orders authorising the use of certain covert and coercive investigative powers. The PIM attends hearings of those applications and represents the public interest having regard to the terms of the relevant legislation. In certain circumstances, the PIM may make recommendations to the Chief Commissioner of Police in relation to entry into, or termination from, witness protection and related arrangements as well as certain human source registrations.
