Purpose
The Victorian Energy Safety Commission was established under the Energy Safe Victoria Act 2005 and is known as Energy Safe Victoria (Energy Safe). Energy Safe is the state's independent regulator responsible for electricity, gas and renewable energy safety across Victoria.
It oversees the regulatory frameworks and enforces the laws outlined under the Electricity Safety Act 1998, Gas Safety Act 1997 and associated regulations, to prevent death, serious injury, property loss and environmental harm caused by energy systems.
Energy Safe's regulatory scope includes education, engagement and enforcement to ensure licensed electrical workers and gasfitters, owners and operators of networks and infrastructure, and equipment manufacturers and suppliers are compliant with energy safety laws and standards.
