Purpose
The Government of Victoria, through the Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action (DEECA) and La Trobe University participate in a joint venture which built a world-class Biosciences Research Centre (known as AgriBio) for agricultural biosciences research and development at La Trobe University's Bundoora campus. The AUD$230 million facility focuses on cutting-edge research to improve the productivity of, control disease in and reduce the environmental impact of the AUD$11.6 billion (2012-13) commodities produced by Victoria's agricultural sector. AgriBio accommodates up to 400 scientists from DEECA and the University. Construction of the facility was completed in 2012 and transition from other facilities commenced in September that year.
